What an awesome game, the team showed so much resilience staying in the game and then charging into the lead, even if the late game got away again. A play/call or two going the Storms way, whewwww that coulda been a huge W. Continuing to rack up L’s with the least point differential possible.
Shout out to Katie Lou, thought she had a really encouraging game. I keep thinking Horston is gonna turn a corner too. It’s a long road from their injuries.
Loved Awa get the ball at the top of the key facilitating, it might be the future of the offense. Still wish she would have gotten some post looks with how small their line-up was, esp when Dom was in. But go 4-5 from 3 with that release, do what ever you want I guess!
Anyone else think that Clark traveled before that last three? She stops dribbling and then takes at least 3 steps. I thought it when watching the play live and seemed obvious in the replay. Maybe that's just one of those calls that will never get called. But certainly frustrating given the magnitude of when it happened.
I’m not sure if I thought it was a travel live, but it certainly looked like one on the replay. Unfortunately, the NBA and WNBA allow for lots of extra steps which they call the gather step. Players abuse it and the refs should still call it when it’s egregious. Natalie Achonwa called for the travel immediately, but credit Clark for sinking that shot.
Yeah I probably wouldn't be able to explain what technically is traveling vs what's legal. Other than moving your pivot foot, I've always looked at it more of as you know it when you see it. Definitely saw it there. I know it's common to take an extra step while driving to the hoop. Here the extra step(s) allowed her to get separation. But, yes, great shot though.
Coached the game for 40 years. If you pick up the ball take a step with one foot and both feet hit simultaneously then not a travel. But, if you pick up the ball take a step and-your same foot hits before the other, that’s a travel. She travels all the time with her step back. But these refs are so far up her a$$ they will not call it.
I have a really hard time telling what’s a travel when it’s a gather these days. I don’t fault the ref’s too much, plus it was a sick shot, but I immediately was like uhh travel??
Back to back with the all wrist ball-strip on Flau’jae I was annoyed. But Caitlin was playing awesome basketball, her passing is so smooth. I will add though, if you play to get fouled, you shouldn’t be thaaaaat surprised when you get fouled. Like with Jade, she plays into contact and it’s not my favorite style, but she’s fearless and knows she’s gonna get hit.
I do wonder if Flau'jae could have done more on that play, or even if she could have just sold being fouled. Like screamed as the contact was made, if that would have triggered a whistle. Of the two plays, I feel that the travel was probably the more questionable of the two. There are some weird rules now where defenders can hit the offensive player's hand as long as they're hitting the ball too.
CC’s body and arm went down and pushed Johnson to the floor. Hard foul. Her arm came across Johnson’s entire body. Anyone else would have gotten a foul called. The whole night both the coach and CC were chirping in refs ears. Total refs interference in the last 2 minutes to swing the game. Sonja needs to say something!
What a game! The young Storm team has a lot to be proud of. Dom had an amazing double double with her 28 points and 12 rebounds or was it 14? It certainly seemed like it. Awa got her 3-point shooting touch back w 4 of 5 and Flaújae had another great game with 16 points and filling the stat sheet. Jade played another good game. On TV they announced that Taylor Thierry was going to be the 5th starter but it was Jade as expected. It was really a great game and we came so close to beating one of the WNBA's elite teams. I didn't notice the Caitlin Clark travel that wasn't called but it wouldn't surprise me.
I saw some people ask why she didn't challenge the non-call on Clark against Flau'jae late in the game, but there was nothing she could do. A coach can't challenge for when a foul should have been called, so in that scenario, she would be challenging that the ball went off of Caitlin Clark instead of Johnson, but it clearly went off of Flau'jae. So she would have lost that challenge.
Same with the potential travel. You can't challenge something that wasn't called.
Also, I know late in the game, Seattle only had their Reset timeout. If they no longer had any regular timeouts, they couldn't challenge even if they had wanted to.
Outside of those two plays, which couldn't be challenged, was there another one you're thinking of? Those are the only things that come to my mind, and neither was an option if she even had the option to challenge at that point, which she might not have.

Totally agree. Clark clearly had a hold on Flau’jae’s wrist. The whole complexion of the game changed on that no-call.
