I had a chaotic trip home as the 2-line stopped running earlier than expected. The next bus wasn’t coming until midnight, so I was stranded in Seattle and had to take an expensive Uber ride back home. Because I got home so late, there won’t be a Part 2 out tomorrow morning. Caitlin Clark has a massive following. Fever fans take over a lot of arenas around the league. While this is probably unique to the WNBA, we've seen it across multiple sports leagues over the years. Blue Jays fans take over T-Mobile Park. LA Lakers fans would show up in big waves against the Sonics during the Shaq & Kobe era. I even recall being surprised at how many Green Bay Packers fans were at a Seahawks game I went to, maybe in 2019. But it's not just a Seattle thing. You'll see 49ers fans completely take over the LA Rams stadium. Pittsburgh Steelers fans travel extremely well to road opponents. Even Seahawks fans do a pretty good job of taking over some opposing stadiums, especially down in Arizona.
One thing that I actually really enjoy when this happens is that it often encourages the home fans to stand up for their team and get even louder and cheer more than they normally would to fight back against the "invaders". Then it just swells a bunch of energy in the arena and often makes for an exciting game.
I also think Ryan brings up a good point. I know STH (not just Storm STH) will look at opportunities to sell off a game or two to get back some of their money to help people afford season tickets that continue to get more expensive for all sports. If you can make an extra $200 or more by giving up tickets to just one game, it's often worth it, if money is a concern, which it is for the majority of us.
Well, I’m guessing the season ticket holders can sell for a pretty penny for that game. Honestly for me as a non STH the vibe is different when Fever come to town, so when I’m planning which games to go to I usually skip those. Maybe other people are like that too, but yeah sometimes I wish we were more like the Valks, selling out every home game with mostly home team fans.
Forgive me if I missed something, but I’ve been unable to find any information on Dom’s injury other than the fact that she injured her back. Was this during the All-Star break? During the dunk (god forbid)?
Coach Raman was asked in the pregame about it; she didn't go into details, but just said she is day-to-day, so I don't think it's serious. The Storm will have to submit an injury report later today, probably in the evening, for tomorrow's game against Atlanta. We'll know more then if it was just a one-time thing or could be something that lingers.
FWIW, the Golden State Valkyries rested Gabby Williams against Phoenix, and I don't think Gabby had any actual injury. They claimed it was for reconditioning, which on the surface doesn't make sense since she went to All-Star weekend and played in the game, so she would have had more recent game conditioning than her Golden State teammates.
