Apparently, talking a lot, being smart, and sitting right next to the head coach wasn’t enough to save Kiana Williams’ job. Wonder who the corresponding signee will be?
Gabby? I think she was unavailable at the beginning of the season for personal reasons (her father passed). So that would not be the issue…BUT
cutting Kiana didn’t free up Gabby level money. My only thought on how it could work is that she might come for a friendly Rest of season and under the promise of signing a nice extension for next year..
It was interesting to see Kiana Williams get waived today after Coach Quinn was praising her so much. Although a couple people have brought it to my attention that this may have just been a calculated decision by the team. Coming up very soon (the deadline may have been today) all of the non-guaranteed contracts on the roster become guaranteed. But if they're waived before that happens, then I believe the team can work around the fully guaranteed contract. Or at least for a few more weeks, by doing those 7 or 10-day contracts.
I wondered if Gabby Williams could have been an option after the Olympics. Although, she might not be eligible. It would only work if she took a minimum deal. I do agree that Jordy and Gabby are very similar players and Jordan may be the better player at this point. But there is no doubt that having Jordan Horston and Gabby Williams on the roster is better than just having one of them.
It should also be noted, Kiana Williams was with Jewell Loyd at the Mariners game tonight representing the Seattle Storm per Circling Seattle Sports. I don't think Kiana would do that if there wasn't an indication she was coming back to the team soon.
I can confirm that sighting in person. Kiana did not have the look of a distressed laid off former employee.
If there is NOT some deal in place to bring back Kiana (and having three backup point guards, with two never playing, is kinda strange), I wonder, Jeff, from your perspective what the team actually needs, personnel-wise? Thinking about who has beaten them, and looking forward to potential playoff matchups should, I'd think, inform that decision.
Fuck it feels good to finally be able to see Nika implement what made her great UConn the past 4 years. She won’t bury all her shots but the energy she has on defence can’t be matched. Hope we see more of that and hope the storm continue winning

Although I feel like every time there’s a spot everyone cries “Gabby” 😂😂😂
Love Gabby, though it seems Jordan has really filled a lot of that role now.
Side note: Did I see you in the Seattle Times recently?
😂 yes you did! Agree on the Jordy/Gabby, but it’s always nice to have a deep bench
