I think last night's game is the first time I've felt hopeful for the Storm's future since the season began. Even though we lost by a substantial margin, we showed spirit . . . and not just from Flau'jae, who has always showed spirit and given her all.
Tell me, where has the Awa Fam that we saw last night been all season. She was great and looked as if she was enjoying playing. Dom is still having trouble holding onto the ball, but she's made good progress this year.
I see Dom, Flau'jae, Awa Fam, and Hiedeman on the team next year. The rest ... expendable.
I'd keep Hiedeman as a shooting guard and concentrate on finding a very good point guard and an excellent 3-point shooter. At times during this season, Hiedeman was the only one scoring much and bringing energy to the game. Well, Fal jae always brought energy.
Pearl: Definitely wondered the same about Awa! Great to see her play with some bad intentions again.
I think about it as three starters for sure (Awa, Dom, Ms. Johnson), with their specific positions negotiable. I think T is the PG until further notice, as I’m not sure the draft offers a better option at that position. The fifth spot HAS to be upgraded, whether it’s a bigger wing, a SG, or even PF (moving Awa to SF). Doesn’t matter, except that the draft has more quality 2/3/4s available. This allows choosing the best player available, rather than forcing a positional pick.
I'll be writing more on this hopefully over the next couple of days, but I'm really thinking even more than specifically needing a point guard, that they just need another strong scorer. Now that could end up one in the same, if they ended up drafting Hannah Hidalgo. But I don't think they should reach on their pick, just to take a point guard. If Madison Booker or Mikaylah Williams is the best player on the board, they should draft them.
This trio: Awa, Dom, Flau'...

I feel like it's possible that hiedeman becomes expendable depending on our draft and free agency

Well with all the scouting Sue did for the World Cup, she must have some ideas about the way to save the team she devoted her entire career to!
Shall I whine about the coach again? Another year?
