Great quotes on Kiki, she’s so calm and smooth out there!
They tried hard to get the ball into Awa at the post today, if I remember right, the first Tempo game was the same way with Dom. Hard for us to do it turns out! More practice on timing will help, we really need somebody who’s great at pocket passing for the pick and roll too.
I continue to be impressed with Awa’s physicality. I was worried she might play kinda soft being a “passing” post, but she keeps decking players without actually trying or appearing affected. Seeing her guard out on the 3 point line too?? She has a ways to go on defense, but long arms, quick feet, and surprisingly strong at 19? Sky is the limit!
You're right on both accounts. Kiki is really pro-ready and already looks like a veteran on the court. I would have been completely happy if the Storm had taken her 3rd overall because that's how much I believe in her, even if she isn't as fancy as Olivia Miles or a sharp-shooting savant like Azzi Fudd.
With that said, Awa Fam's tools give her the highest ceiling of all of the prospects. Like a 5-tool player in baseball. Her shooting is pretty smooth, as we've seen her knock down some midrange jumpers already. Her rolls to the rim with her athleticism are going to be big early in her career, and as you mentioned, having good pocket passes will help her. As you talk about, her ability to guard out on the 3-PT line could also allow Seattle to get creative and potentially run lineups with her, Ezi Magbegor, and Dom Malonga.
For me, the most exciting thing about this season is watching all of these younger talents like Awa, Dom, Flau'jae, Jordan, etc. get more WNBA experience and build their games.
I expect Awa to push Ezi and Dom a lot. Not only is she physical, there’s an extraordinary sense of purpose and poise about her. It wouldn’t shock me if she embarrasses them in practice (or will, in Ezi’s case, once she’s a full-go). Awa ain’t messing around or backing down.
Same, for need alone. I still think we are thin @ G position. I like our Gs but I think you can pin a lot of our growing pains to no true floor general.
That said, I also 💯 understand and am happy with the Fam signing, especially with a lot of very good Gs in next year’s draft.

I was hoping we would take Kiki when we did not get Olivia.

Yes, this upcoming draft is full of guards and extremely thin on posts.
