Nika Mühl Selected in the WNBA Expansion Draft
Mühl was the only Seattle Storm player selected in Friday's expansion draft.
The WNBA Expansion Draft came and went quickly on Friday afternoon. The two expansion franchises took 22 players total, with each team skipping a selection. Nika Mühl was the only Seattle Storm player selected, and was selected with the last pick of the draft by the Portland Fire. The fact that Ezi Magbegor was not selected leaves me to believe that the Storm protect Magbegor, which is what I predicted in my previous article.
I have wonder if the team also protected Brittney Sykes, as I thought she might be a prime candidate to be selected as a team’s priority UFA. They may have left both Skylar Diggins and Nneka Ogwumike unprotected believing that those two would not want to sign with an expansion franchise this late into their careers. If so, I applaud the Storm’s front office for making that decision and not having it backfire.
Below is the full list of players selected in today’s WNBA Expansion draft.

A bit unrelated, but we drafted jordan horston on a 4 year rookie contract. She played 2 years and didn't play last year when she tore her acl and we suspended her contract. Now that she will be back, will this be the last year on her contract or will she have 2026+2027 left on the storm?
Sadly, it'll take a fourth year to find out if she is actually a WNBA-caliber player. Also won't miss the Nika stans.
