It'll be interesting to see what ATL does on Saturday given it'll be a back-to-back game, after they play GSV again tonight. Though I guess they do have 5 days until their next game with cup game break coming up.
Good point on the back-to-back for the Dream. I didn't realize that. I'm sure it'll still be a tough game for the Storm as I look at Atlanta as being one of the Top 4 teams in the league with a legitimate chance to win the championship this year.
Agreed about the Dream. I really like Allisha Gray so they're my "if it's not going to be the Storm" team that I root for, at least until it could be the Storm. They just seem so close to going all the way. That being said, certainly hoping the Storm start a new, better, streak against them tomorrow 🙂.
At the last minute, I decided to get tickets and go to this one. What a treat. Jade and Flau were unstoppable. Awa and Dom already looking like they've been playing together all season. So fun to see us never back down from their runs.
Yeah, that's what I was most happy to see. NY made multiple small runs but the Storm responded every time. Even without Stewart or Sabally, NY still had plenty of talent on the floor. I kept waiting for them to pull ahead as the game progressed. Thankfully Seattle didn't let it happen.
I also really enjoyed seeing Flau'jae's reaction at the end of the game. You could visibly see the relief and joy. I'm really liking her more and more with every game. Even when her play isn't what it was last night, there are just so many other qualities to her that make me thankful she's a Storm.
I’m still trying to understand what, exactly, did the Storm feel they needed to apologize to Breanna Stewart for in the pregame “tribute?” Leaving Seattle was a right she earned, of course, and she could depart however she wanted to. How one leaves does matter, however, and it felt as if the Storm was apologizing for not being as excited about her departure as Stewart was. Fortunately, a terrific win removed some of the bad taste from that pregame.
I was actually in the back media room when they started playing the Stewie tribute video. It was a bit surprising, and I'm not sure how I feel about it overall. I suppose the Storm did the right thing by honoring one of the most important players in franchise history. But I also didn't blame them for not giving her a tribute video for how she handled free agency.
As they say, time heals all wounds, and maybe now that they have Dom and Awa, they have been able to get over their hurt feelings of being spurned. The tribute clearly meant a lot to Stewie. I feel she acted a bit spoiled by the way she handled her departure, and then was offended that she didn't have a massive tribute video in her honor, and went public about that.
Well said, Jeff. She is one of the most important players in franchise history - still, the whole thing felt jarring and inappropriate (I’m jealous of Cija missing it 🤣). Spoiled and immature are the adjectives that come to mind. Stewart should have felt touched by the tribute: She got everything she wanted from a basketball standpoint; she got to be gamey in her departure; she complained her way into a tribute. What’s not to like??
Yeah, I’m glad I missed it. I don’t hate Stewart for leaving, but I do think she toyed with our front office as well as the fans with her cryptic emojis and seesawing. I personally never (well, maybe not never) thought she was coming back tho. And what mess Sloot has done in Chicago this year and her ineffective play @ NYL those years there, maybe it was a good thing that Sloot-Stewie thing never happened in Seattle?
Her free agency shenanigans forced us into a late free agency desperation over-sign of Kia Nurse whom we had to include a draft pick swap for (ended up costing us Rickea Jackson but we got Fam this year out of it so, worth it?) to allow cap space for Sky/Nneka the following year.

You and me both! When NY got within 8 in the 4th it was like a 2026 trauma response. My brain went "dang, that might be it". But we pulled it off!
